A Pair of Large Pearlware glazed Sitting Staffordshire Pottery Comforter Dogs. Well-modelled and painted with best gold collar, padlock and chain. The moulding and feathered painted detail in the fur and the head region especially the muzzle and eyes is on both dogs is good. The eyes are painted with black and yellow/orange overglaze enamels and black eyebrows/lashes (painted as dots below the eye). The end of the muzzle is painted with flesh & black overglaze enamels. Date of production is circa 1870 (ref.1).

 

· Dimensions: 33cm (13”) tall (minor height difference between the two), 28cm (11”) wide and 14cm (5 ½”) deep.

· Weight: 2200g & 1900g. Total packaged weight is ~ 6-7kg.

· Overall Condition: Good.

· Repair/Restoration/Conservation: Crack on base mould seam of RHS dog (5 inches long) secured with colour matched adhesive (see images).

· Chips/Dents: Small hole due to thinly moulded clay in tail of RHS dog. Shallow loss of glaze to nose.

· Cracks: None.

· Other notes: Lots of various glazed over firing faults and patches of missed glaze/glaze loss.
