A Pair of Recumbent Staffordshire Pottery Alsatian / German Shepherd Dogs. The dogs are decorated with an underglaze spray orange typical of the late Victorian/Edwardian & early 20th Century Staffordshire Spaniels. The glaze has a blue tinge typical of the period. They can also be found also be found in with a rust/orange coloured glaze. The mouth, eyes & nose are underglaze black painted. The dogs are slip moulded and are typical of the wares being produced during Edwardian period to the late 1930’s across the Staffordshire region; date of production is circa 1900 – late 1930’s (ref.1). Although unmarked this mould is often found with the base marked with the moulded word ‘BRITISH’, a marked pair can be found on this website.
· Dimensions: 13cm (5”) tall, 20cm (7 ½”) wide and 8cm (3”) deep. · Weight: 300g & 300g. Total packaged weight is ~ 1.5 - 2 kg. · Overall Condition: Excellent. · Repair/Restoration/Conservation: None. · Chips/Dents: None. · Cracks: None. · Other notes: Very clean and scarce examples with unstained crazing.
