A Pair of Large Pearlware glazed Sitting Comforter Dogs. Well-modelled and painted with fired (bright) gold dots, lines and the usual gold collar padlock and chain. The moulding and painted detail in the fur and the head region especially the muzzle and eyes is on both dogs is sharp and pronounced. The eyes are painted with black and yellow/orange overglaze enamel and black eyebrows/lashes (painted as dots below the eye). The end of the muzzle is painted with flesh & black overglaze enamel. Date of production is circa 1870 (ref.1).

 

· Dimensions: 33cm (~12.5”) tall, 28cm (11”) wide and 14cm (5 ½”) deep. 

· Weight: The weight of the dogs is 1800g & 2000g. Total packaged weight is ~ 6-7kg.

· Overall Condition: Excellent.

· Repair/Restoration/Conservation: None.

· Chips/Dents: None.

· Cracks: None.

· Other notes: An unusual example, in clean undamaged condition. Glazed over firing crack to side of LHS dog and a glazed over small chip on base of RHS dog.
