Price: £250

A Pair of Staffordshire Porcelain Sitting Spaniel Dogs. Unusually these dogs are potted from fine quality white soft paste porcelain rather than the typical off white Earthenware. They are painted with fired (best) gold collar, padlock and chain. The eyes are carefully decorated with black/yellow overglaze enamels with the muzzle and mouth in black/grey and red. The dogs are wide & chunky on comparison to most, this appearance, together with the upward looking eyes & facial features lend an obedient & faithful look. They are a nicely finished pair with very little wear to the decoration and a good glaze which little crazing. This mould is not seen often, and when seen is more often decorated with red colour (ref 1.) Date of production is circa 1850.
