A Fine Pair of Staffordshire Pottery Red & White Spaniel Dogs with two separately moulded legs. The two front feet are separately moulded as are the back paw & tail. The body of the dogs is a fine white earthenware; on occasion this mould is found in soft paste porcelain. The dogs are decorated with best (fired) gold gilded decoration to padlock & collar. The appealing eyes, mouth and nose are carefully painted in black, yellow, red and pink overglaze enamel colours. The body is decorated with finely feathered rust/red patches. The dogs have very good painted & moulded detail. Date of manufacture would be circa 1850 (ref.1& 2).
· Dimensions: 14cm (5 ½") tall, 11cm (4") wide and 7.5cm (3") deep. · Weight: each dog is approx. 400g. Total packaged weight is ~ 1.5 – 2 kg. · Overall Condition: Excellent. · Repair/Restoration/Conservation: None. · Chips/Dents: Small chip to tail at base of one dog (see images). · Cracks: Two glazed firing cracks (not impact damage) see images. · Other notes: An unusual & fine pair of spaniels of excellent quality.
