A Miniature Pair/Group of Staffordshire Pottery Dogs seated and guarding a Whiskey Barrel. The pearlware-glazed dogs sit on a yellow lined base. The group is decorated with red/russet, black, green, brown, flesh & yellow overglaze enamel colours. There is a larger version of this group that can be found in white, red or black, this is a miniature version (ref. 1). Date of production is circa 1860 - 75 (ref. 2&3). This example is particularly well decorated with lots of colour. Often the colours are limited and the decoration very naively done.
