A Scarce Staffordshire Pottery Dog with Red overglaze decoration which continues on the rear. The pearlware-glazed dog is decorated with best (fired) gold gilded decoration to the chain & collar. The eyes, mouth and nose are painted in black, yellow and pink overglaze enamel colours. The dog is very well moulded, the fur detail is deep and it has carefully applied facial features. Date of production is circa 1850 (ref.1).
‘A chunky-bodied red & white Spaniel with detailed molding and remarkable painted decoration. Boldly styled, this figure’s worldly air and aura of unselfconscious dignity are best expressed in finely delineated facial features’ (ref 1).
· Dimensions: 26cm (10.5") tall, 19cm (7 ½") wide and 15cm (6") deep. · Weight: 1600g. Total packaged weight is ~ 2-3kg. · Overall Condition: Excellent to Good. · Repair/Restoration/Conservation: None. · Chips/Dents: None. · Cracks: None. · Other notes: A rare, clean example and unusually decorated front & back. Some clean crazing to the glaze and minor loss to enamels.
